Happy Holidays!

Tis the season…hustle and bustle, list upon list, shopping and baking. I love this time of year.  Getting out the decorations brings back memories of where the item was purchased and who I was with.  It may have been a favorite craft show or our annual girl’s day out shopping on Thanksgiving weekend.  I’m not one to have a new themed tree every year. The memories of the old are the best!

Our skinny glass Santa tree topper was purchased in Frankenmuth, MI forty some years ago.  We’ve looked for something to replace him but the memory is better than a new one.  As long as he is in one piece, he will sit on top of our tree.

What are your favorite Christmas decorations?

This little fruit tree is always in my kitchen. The container it sits in may change from year to year. It’s sitting on the counter in a coffee cup next to a wooden Santa painted by my mom.

My sisters and I must have gotten our creative genes from my Mom. She used to be pretty crafty. This cloche with Santa and the toys is most definitely a favorite. She made one of these for each of us many years ago. Each is a little different.

Old favorites get moved round each year and paired with something different to change things up. The tall gold trees on my mantle are new this year. Some older sparkly Santas share the space.

Made For Memories

Tis the season of great memories – just going through old recipes to find one to share with you brought old friends to mind. I found recipes from an old friend that is no longer with us and some friends I haven’t seen in years. A cookie recipe in my grandmother’s handwriting – what a treasure.

A great gift idea is to have that engraved on a cutting board. Willy and Wade on S. Main St. will do that for you.

Celebrate With Sweets

Check out one of my mom’s signature recipe – White Christmas Pie!

Live Locally

There are fun things to do in Marion in the coming weeks.

Visit Santa
Santa will be in his house in Founders Park from 1-3 on Dec. 11 and 18.
Bring the little ones to see him.

Meet the Adoptable Dogs
The Humane Society will be there with adoptable dogs from 2-4 on the 11th.

Mascot Dance Off
At 4 pm on the 11th, there will be a dance off between Marion Mascots.

K-9 Skills
On Dec. 18 at 3pm the Police K-9 dogs will be showing off their skills.

Holiday Date Night
How about a holiday date night at The Brickyard from 5:30-9:30 on the 18th? Wear a festive Christmas hat for the hat contest; enjoy fabulous food prepared by Tim Kildow; bid on one of the silent auction items for a last minute gift; join in the fun of the Celebrity Pie and Cake Auction. This event is always a fun evening with generous people who believe in the revitalization of our downtown.

I hope to see you there. We are fortunate to live in this great little town.

In all of your celebrations, take time to savor the moments and cherish time spent with family and friends. Thank you for your business and friendship. I cherish all of you. I wish for you a beautiful Christmas season filled with your favorite things. May 2022 bring good health and prosperity.

Until Next Year...
