Hello May 🌷

April Showers Bring May Flowers

I love spring and planting. This year my plan was to be ahead of the game. So, I bought a greenhouse! I planted the seeds from the zinnias I saved from my yard last year. I ordered my favorite Dahlia tubers. Asparagus fern is easy to divide and separate and I did that with a fern I was able to over winter. My results are a BIG flop!

3 of the zinnia seeds sprouted, the rest molded. I’m still waiting on the dahlias. (My gardening friend said not to give up on those yet.)The asparagus fern seems to be in shock. One of the zippers on the greenhouse broke and then the plastic ripped on the other side. Apparently, the greenhouse is a one-time use, but I don’t remember reading that in the description. It temporarily is usable due to duct tape! This year will continue as in the past with buying plants already in bloom and planting. Instant gratification!

My favorite flowers for cutting are zinnias and dahlias. Be sure to get those plants if you enjoy having fresh flowers.

Family First

May is a busy month for my family with birthdays, Mother’s Day, and a college graduation. I am so lucky to have my granddaughter, Mallory make my newsletter look good. I write the content but she makes it pretty and professional looking. She is graduating from Kent State on the 12th and going on to Clemson for her master’s. We are so proud of her and will really miss her. She will be moving to a brand new apartment. Furnishing it continues to be fun. She has a great sense of style.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is May 14 -The holiday became official in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Saturday in May as Mother’s Day. I’m so lucky to still have my mom. Did you know more phone calls are made on Mother’s Day than on any other day of the year? These holiday chats often cause phone traffic to spike as much as 37 percent. So, Happy Mother’s Day to all moms. Here is a photo of my mom and me on her 94th birthday.

Does Your Home Need an Update?

The kitchen and bathrooms continue to be a lot of my projects. I start with my notes and taking measurements. From there we get the computer drawing of what cabinets go where and this visual.  This helps so much. Call me at 740-337-1649 if you need help with a kitchen renovation.

A Trick for Your Planters

Do you love the look of large, tall planters for your patio? Do you hesitate to get one because of the amount of dirt it will take to fill one?

I’ve tried using old plastic milk jugs, Styrofoam peanuts, and plastic pots that plants come in. None of those are great solutions. I’m trying this instead. Cut up foam pool noodles. Cut them to the size needed to fill the bottom of your pot.
