Hello June!

WOW, for me the month of May flew by so quickly! So, we’ve turned the calendar page to June. As I told you last month, my new plants have been a bit disappointing as has my greenhouse. I didn’t give up on my dahlia bulbs as my friend suggested. I now have 7 dahlias growing! I’m excited about those blooms. Right now the iris and peonies are blooming. I hope to have this much color all summer.
This is what is blooming for me right now.

Having fresh flowers in the house is one reason I love gardening. Even a single bloom in a pretty vase is special. When you buy fresh flowers, they usually come with a packet of flower fresh. A flower preservative contains sugar for nutrition, bleach to keep the water clear of bacteria, and citric acid to gently acidify the water. My gardening friend shared the following Homemade Flower Preservative recipe with me.

  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp. household bleach
  • 2 tsp. lemon or lime juice
  • 1 quart lukewarm water

I’m anxious to give it a try when (thinking positively for dahlia blooms) I have blooms to cut!

Thanks Carol!

Murphy's Law Remodel

You know the adage, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” Murphy was alive and well during the remodel of these 2 bathrooms. The first order was placed in October of 2021. We endured product delays, Covid precautions, illness, damage due to prolonged storage and other situations I’ve since forgotten! When I visited this week to deliver the last item, the homeowner expressed to me that it was all worth it.  They absolutely love it! She said seeing her beautiful bathroom makes her happy! She loved that tile the first day I showed it to her and still does! We thanked each other for our patience and understanding. The end result being better than she imagined made it all worth it!

Another Bathroom Remodel

Sometimes all you need is to change a few things to get a more luxe update. For this bath update, we removed the 20-year-old laminate vanity tops and replaced them with Cambria quartz. Bath fixtures changed to single control faucets in oil-rubbed bronze finish. New lighting fixtures in oil-rubbed bronze have a sleek, modern look. This phase of the update is complete. The new cultured marble shower walls and barn-style sliding shower door will arrive late this month to complete the project. The existing floor tile, wallpaper, cabinetry, and hardware remain.
